Thank you for taking the time to learn about our school, Patten Academy- a place where faith and education transform lives.

Patten Academy was founded in 1944 with the purpose of providing a quality education for young people from K-12 in a nurturing environment and atmosphere reflective of the teaching and values of Jesus Christ, and has remained true to its purpose for over 75 years.

Patten Academy serves an ethnically and socioeconomically diverse population of young people in the Fruitvale district of Oakland, California, empowering them to transform their world through rigorous academic training and an expressively Biblical worldview.

Patten Academy thoroughly expresses the noble and lofty aims of a rigorous and passionate Christian Education. It is not only filling the need of a city and generation desperate for hope and opportunity but also answering a missional calling to share the love of Jesus Christ and to “feed His sheep.” Everything Patten Academy does reflects the mercy of God to seek and to serve, and also the excellence of God to reach higher, go further, and dig deeper.

Patten Academy is academically rigorous, with accreditation from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and graduating classes who achieve scholastic honors and acceptance and impact their communities in the classroom, pulpit, board room, and public square. Patten Academy is unapologetically Christian and operates with a Biblical worldview of God, family, life, and community. This mission is reflected in everything from student involvement in Christian service to the commitment of faculty, staff, administration, and parents to the complete fulfillment of each individual student’s potential.

With the support of the Christian Evangelical Churches of America, the Patten Educational Foundation, and generous donors, the Patten Academy offers the lowest tuition of any private school in the Bay Area of California. However, the school is not seeking to market affordability but rather to answer the calling of “whosoever will, let him come.” We want to be Biblically accessible for those who would not otherwise have the opportunity to experience the life-changing grace of a Christian Education.
